Seven sports teams—four William Smith and three Hobart—will head south for spring break. The Heron tennis and lacrosse squads and the Statesmen golf team will travel to Florida, Hobart tennis will compete in South Carolina, and both rowing teams will be on the water in Georgia. The sailing team will be in action in Maryland and Washington, D.C., while the William Smith soccer team will go even farther south, traveling to Brazil.

When Team Canada begins its World Lacrosse Championship defense this summer in Manchester, England, Hobart junior goalie Evan Kirk will be wearing the familiar red maple leaf proudly. Kirk is one of three goalies and one of only two current collegians to earn a spot on Team Canada’s 23-man roster.
03.09 | William Smith Lacrosse
Former William Smith College lacrosse player Jesse McKenna ’08, originally of Wenham, Mass., was recently named a 2010 recipient of the Sara’s Wish Foundation scholarship, given in the name of Sara Schewe to support safe and rewarding adventures for students when studying abroad. The scholarship will help McKenna fund her return trip to Tanzania, a country she traveled to following her graduation from William Smith.

The William Smith College lacrosse team is ranked 18th in Division III, according to this week’s Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association’s (IWLCA) poll. The Herons opened the 2010 season on Saturday, when they hosted 20th-ranked Nazareth.
