Originally constructed in 1958, the HWS Tennis Center was completely rebuilt during the summer of 2017. The playing surface is Action Pave Acrylic Color Systems, a durable, glare-free, non-peeling, non-fading coating suitable for the weather in the Northeast. The centerpiece of the eight-court facility is Morrow Championship Court, named in honor of former Heron tennis player and current HWS Trustee Allison Morrow '76.Â
Melly Court honors the Melly family, Chair Emeritus of the Board of Trustees L. Thomas Melly '52 L.H.D. '02 and Judith H. Melly L.H.D. '16. Hebard Court is named in recognition of Edgar B. Hebard '60, a former Hobart tennis player.
The Colleges' main tennis facility is conveniently located between Bristol Gymnasium, home of Hobart Athletics, and Winn-Seeley Gymnasium, home of William Smith Athletics. The lighted courts that have hosted men's and women's Liberty League Championships and the men's and women's ITA Northeast Regional Championships as well as high school sectional tournaments. There is an observation deck for spectators, as well as an office area that is used to coordinate tournaments.
The facility is open to the Colleges' community for recreational use, when the Statesmen and Herons aren't using it.
