Three Hobart College soccer players earned Liberty League honors today after leading the fourth-ranked Statesmen to two Liberty League wins over the weekend. Senior midfielder
Tyler Webster (Acton Boxborough/Acton, Mass.) was named the league's Offensive Performer of the Week, while senior goalkeeper
Pete Van Dellon (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) was tabbed the Defensive Performer of the Week, and first-year forward
Tommy Hayes (St. Anthony's/East Northport, N.Y.) earned the Co-Rookie of the Week award.
Webster notched three goals and an assist last week. He led Hobart with two goals, including his Liberty League-leading fifth game-winner, and an assist, in a 5-1 win at Vassar on Sunday. He also netted an insurance goal in the Statesmen's 2-0 win at Rensselaer on Saturday.
Webster shares the league-lead for goals (8), and ranks second in points (18). He also cracked the top-10 on Hobart's career goals and points lists, ranking ninth in career goals (23) and 10th in career points (52).
Van Dellon earned his league-leading ninth shutout of the season at Rensselaer. He collected two saves vs. the Red Hawks, and picked up two more the following day against the Brewers. Van Dellon also leads the league in goals against average (0.52), and saves (70). This is the fourth time he has won this award this fall.
Hayes recorded four assists for the Statesmen, earning his second Rookie of the Week award this season. He set up three tallies in the win at Vassar, including the game-winning goal. The day before, Hayes picked up an assist after taking a shot that rebounded back to Webster for the Statesmen's second goal against the Red Hawks. Hayes tied a Hobart record for assists in a game with three, a record set earlier this season by junior defender
Matt Geswell's (Carmel/Patterson, N.Y.) performance at Rochester.
The Statesmen remain undefeated with a 15-0-2 overall record, and their 6-0-1 league mark earned them the Liberty League regular season title for the first time in program history. Hobart will be in action on Nov. 1, when it travels to Fredonia for its final regular season match. The Statesmen will return home the following weekend, Nov. 7-8, to host the Liberty League Tournament.
