Hobart soccer's NCAA run ends in 3rd round
Kevin McCarthy
DUBUQUE, Iowa--The Hobart soccer team's record-setting 2008 season came to a close tonight, falling to Ohio Northern 2-1 at Loras College tonight. The Statesmen end the year with an 18-1-3 mark, a program record for wins in a season, while the Polar Bears improve to 20-5-1.

Both teams put two shots on frame in the first half, but headed into the intermission with the match still scoreless.

ONU's Dustin Connor broke the stalemate in the 52nd minute. The Polar Bears doubled their lead 15 minutes later when Jimmy Matuszak headed in a cross from Nate Bascom.

The insurance goal proved critical when senior Dan Riso scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season in the 74th minute.

Unfortunately, the Statesmen were unable to solve goalie Aaron Collins again. He finished the night with five saves. Senior Pete Van Dellon capped his career with two saves.
