The Hobart College soccer team continues to be ranked fourth in the nation, according to this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll. This is the third straight week the Statesmen have held the No. 4 spot. They have also been the top team in the Northeast Region for eight weeks in a row.
Hobart has had a record-breaking season, posting an undefeated 16-0-2 record, and earning its first Liberty League regular season title with a 6-0-1 mark. The Statesmen also set new program standards for wins in a season (previously 15) and longest unbeaten streak (previously 16).
In its final regular season match of the season, Hobart defeated Fredonia 3-2. Seniors
Dan Riso (Red Hook/Red Hook, N.Y) and
Philipp Schoeniger (Erlangen/Erlangen, Germany), and first-year
Tommy Hayes (St. Anthony's/East Northport, N.Y.) each tallied for the Statesmen.
Riso's goal was the 21st of his career, and increased his career points total to 52. He now holds a share of the 11th spot in the Hobart records book for career goals, and shares the 10th spot on the career points list with fellow senior
Tyler Webster (Acton Boxborough/Acton, Mass.).
Senior goalkeeper
Pete Van Dellon (Webster/Webster, N.Y.) is also making his mark on the records book. He is the all-time leader in goals against average (.854) and wins (34), ranks second in shutouts (21), and sixth in saves (208).
Hobart will host the Liberty League Tournament Nov. 7-8. The Statesmen enter the tournament as the top seed, and will square off against fourth-seeded Union on Cozzens Field at 2 p.m. on Friday. Second-seeded Rensselaer will meet third-seeded St. Lawrence on William Smith Field at the same time.
