GENEVA, N.Y.—Two members of the Hobart College soccer team were recognized by the Liberty League office this afternoon for their play in two matches last week. Junior defender
Matt Geswell (Carmel/Patterson, N.Y.) was tabbed the Co-Defensive Performer of the Week, while first-year forward
Tommy Hayes (St. Anthony's/East Northport, N.Y.) was named the Co-Rookie of the Week.
Geswell assisted on all three of seventh-ranked Hobart's goals in its 3-0 win over 24th-ranked Rochester on Saturday. All three goals began with Geswell's long, well-placed throw-ins. He also led a Statesmen defense that held the Cardinals and Yellowjackets to a combined nine shots on goal.
Hayes notched his first collegiate points last week, on a goal and an assist in the Statesmen's 2-1 win against St. John Fisher. Hayes tied the contest at 1-all in the 41st minute with his first career goal, and set up the game-winning tally less than three minutes later.
Hobart will open its Liberty League schedule this weekend holding an undefeated 7-0-0 record. The Statesmen will host Clarkson on Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. Fans unable to attend the match can listen live on
