GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College soccer team is ranked sixth in Division III, according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) weekly poll. The Statesmen, previously ranked seventh, also hold the top spot in the Northeast Region for the second straight week.
Hobart improved its overall mark to 7-0-0 last week, after defeating St. John Fisher 2-1, and then-24th-ranked Rochester 3-0. Seven different Statesmen recorded points in the two matches. First-year forward
Tommy Hayes (St. Anthony's/East Northport, N.Y.) led the way with a goal and an assist against the Cardinals, while junior defender
Matt Geswell (Carmel/Patterson, N.Y.) assisted on all three Hobart goals vs. the Yellowjackets. Both Hayes and Geswell earned Liberty League weekly honors for their performances.
Senior forward
Dan Riso (Red Hook/Red Hook, N.Y.) netted his Liberty League-leading fifth goal and third game-winner at St. John Fisher, while senior goalkeeper
Pete Van Dellon (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) lowered his goals against average to a league-best 0.43 after notching his league-leading fourth shutout of the year at Rochester.
The Statesmen will open their Liberty League schedule this weekend, when they host Clarkson on Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. Fans unable to make it to Cozzens Field for the game can listen live on
