Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The fourth-ranked William Smith soccer team erupted for a season-high six goals in a shutout victory over Liberty League rival Clarkson on Cozzens Field today.
BreLynn Nasypany led the charge with a goal and two assists.
In the 10th minute, Nasypany set the stage for the Herons' first goal when she was tripped in the Clarkson penalty area.
Alyse DiCenzo converted the penalty kick for her first goal of the season. Nasypany doubled the William Smith lead in the 27th minute when she put away a cross from
Kate Redmond.
The Herons (9-2-1, 4-0-1) bombarded the Golden Knights' net in the first half, outshooting their guests 14-2, but carried just a 2-0 lead into halftime.
William Smith broke the match wide open with three goals in 11 minutes early in the second half. Nasypany set up the first two tallies during the surge.
Whitney Frary made it a 3-0 match in the 57th minute when she side-stepped junior goalie Stephanie Collins' diving save attempt.
Alex Frankel netted her first goal of the season in the 65th minute, beating Collins with a shot from inside the 6. In the 68th minute,
Morgan Gibeault capped the run taking a through ball from
Emily Harris and slipping a shot inside the right post.
Harris set up the Herons final goal of the day as well, playing another through ball this time to
Renee Jensen, whose shot slipped inside the left post.
Despite a rough patch in the second half, Collins played well, finishing with 14 saves.

Libby Greene combined for William Smith's ninth shutout of the season.
The Herons will be back in action at 2 p.m. on Oct. 17, when they visit Oneonta State. Clarkson will travel to St. John Fisher at 3 p.m. on Oct. 17.
