Two Hobart football players were honored by the Liberty League today for their roles in the Statesmen’s 28-0 conference win over Merchant Marine on Saturday. Linebacker
Kyle O’Laughlin was named the Co-Defensive Performer of the Week, while
Tyler Vincent earned a share of the Special Teams Performer of the Week award.
O’Laughlin led a dominating performance by the defense against the Mariners. He posted a game-high 10 tackles as the Statesmen shutout the League’s then No. 2 scoring offense. O’Laughlin also forced a fumble that led to Hobart’s first touchdown. He and his teammates were especially effective on third down, limiting the Mariners to just two conversions on 16 tries. Merchant Marine hasn’t scored on Hobart in nine consecutive quarters dating back to the 2007 season.
O’Laughlin leads the team and is fourth in the conference with 54 tackles (9.0/g).
Vincent punted six times for 229 yards in a 28-0 win over Merchant Marine. He averaged 38.2 yards per punt, including a season-long 58-yarder. The Mariners were unable to return any of Vincent’s punts, a contributing factor in their average starting field position of their own 28 in the first half. He’s fourth in the conference in punting average (33.5).
A wide receiver, Vincent also made three catches for 38 yards and a touchdown against Merchant Marine. He leads the Statesmen with 26 receptions for 348 yards and three TDs. Vincent has 105 career catches for 1,239 yards and 14 touchdowns. He is tied for eighth in career receptions and ranks 11th in career receiving yards and sixth in receiving touchdowns.
Vincent is fourth in the Liberty League in receiving yards per game (58.0) and fifth in receptions per game (4.33).
Hobart (3-3, 2-2) is back in action at 1 p.m. on Oct. 31, when the Statesmen visit WPI (3-4, 0-4).
WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3) will broadcast the game live.
