GENEVA, N.Y.—The 14th-ranked William Smith College soccer team defeated RIT 1-0 this afternoon in the final regular season match for both teams. With the win, Head Coach Aliceann Wilber recorded her 400th career victory, becoming just the second Division III women’s soccer coach to reach that lofty milestone.

The Herons improve to 11-3-2 overall, while the Tigers fall to 7-7-3 on the year.

Sophomore Kate Redmond was responsible for the lone tally of the day. She intercepted a loose ball in front of the Tigers’ goal in the 16th minute, and dribbled around an RIT defender to free herself for a shot from about 5 yards out. The goal marked Redmond’s third of the season.

The Herons nearly added an insurance goal with just over 21 minutes to play in regulation. Junior BreLynn Nasypany sent a cross through the box to first-year Whitney Frary, who slid in and narrowly missed connecting with the ball.

William Smith held a 12-1 advantage in total shots, and a 6-2 edge in corner kick opportunities.

Sophomore Heron goalkeeper Amanda Davis did not collect a save as she recorded her 10th shutout of the season. Ashley Valenti picked up seven saves in goal for the Tigers.

As the top seed in the Liberty League Tournament, William Smith will host No. 4 Union on Nov. 4 for a first round match at 1:30 p.m. Fans unable to make it to Cozzens Field can listen live on WHWS-FM (105.7), or follow along online with Live Stats, available at www.HWSAthletics.com.

Sherwin led the Herons to victory at the Skidmore Sprint Invitational. She posted the lone individual victory for the Herons, winning the 50-yard butterfly in 29.24 seconds, 0.02 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Sherwin also turned in a second-place finish in the 50 backstroke in a time of 30.75, 0.14 seconds off the winning pace, and third-place effort in the 100 butterfly (1:05.99). Sherwin factored into William Smith's other victory, swimming a leg for the winning 200 freestyle relay team that touched the wall in 1:47.06.
Patrick Moriarty
Hobart Ice Hockey
Moriarty recorded three points in Hobart's 5-3 takedown of then No. 6 Elmira. He assisted on the Statesmen's first goal of the day, a short-handed tally in the first period. Moriarty's goals both came on the power play, the first was the game-winner in the second period and the second gave Hobart some breathing room in the third period.
