GENEVA, N.Y.—The 14th-ranked William Smith College soccer team defeated RIT 1-0 this afternoon in the final regular season match for both teams. With the win, Head Coach Aliceann Wilber recorded her 400th career victory, becoming just the second Division III women’s soccer coach to reach that lofty milestone.

The Herons improve to 11-3-2 overall, while the Tigers fall to 7-7-3 on the year.

Sophomore Kate Redmond was responsible for the lone tally of the day. She intercepted a loose ball in front of the Tigers’ goal in the 16th minute, and dribbled around an RIT defender to free herself for a shot from about 5 yards out. The goal marked Redmond’s third of the season.

The Herons nearly added an insurance goal with just over 21 minutes to play in regulation. Junior BreLynn Nasypany sent a cross through the box to first-year Whitney Frary, who slid in and narrowly missed connecting with the ball.

William Smith held a 12-1 advantage in total shots, and a 6-2 edge in corner kick opportunities.

Sophomore Heron goalkeeper Amanda Davis did not collect a save as she recorded her 10th shutout of the season. Ashley Valenti picked up seven saves in goal for the Tigers.

As the top seed in the Liberty League Tournament, William Smith will host No. 4 Union on Nov. 4 for a first round match at 1:30 p.m. Fans unable to make it to Cozzens Field can listen live on WHWS-FM (105.7), or follow along online with Live Stats, available at www.HWSAthletics.com.

Facing the toughest defense in the nation, Curtin posted his third consecutive hat trick. He completed his collegiate career with a three-goal performance at Bryant on Thursday. The Bulldogs came into the contest allowing just 6.44 goals per game, but the Statesmen netted nine goals, the second highest total against Bryant this season. Curtin capped his career 11th in career goals and career points and 12th in career assists.
