Two Hobart football players were honored by the Liberty League today for their roles in the Statesmen’s 10-0 win over Rensselaer on Saturday. Linebacker Ryan Robinson was named the Co-Defensive Performer of the Week, while punter Tyler Vincent earned a share of the Special Teams Performer of the Week award.

Robinson led a Hobart defense that posted its second consecutive home shutout, logging a team-high 10 tackles that included eight solo stops and two tackles for a loss. The Engineers entered the game second in the League in total offense (345.4 yds/g), but gained just 179 yards against Robinson and the Statesmen. The defense was so dominant that RPI did not cross midfield in the second half.

Robinson is second on the team and 14th in the conference in tackles (55, 6.9/g). He leads the team and ranks fifth in the League in tackles for a loss (10.0 for 19 yards). In 36 career games, Robinson has 164 tackles, 30.5 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks, 10 pass break ups, five forced fumbles, and three interceptions.

Vincent averaged 36.6 yards per punt against RPI. He dropped four of his nine punts inside the Engineers’ 20 and sent four more into the end zone for touchbacks. Vincent was also Hobart’s No. 2 rusher on the day, converting a pair of fake punts into 30 yards and two first downs.

Vincent is third in the conference in punting average (34.4 yds/p), while the Statesmen lead the League in net punting (33.8 net yds/p). Also Hobart’s top receiver, he has 28 catches for 380 yards and three touchdowns. In 29 career games, Vincent has 107 catches for 1,271 yards and 14 touchdowns and is averaging 35.5 yards per punt. In Hobart’s career records book, he ranks sixth in receiving touchdowns, eighth in receptions, and 11th in receiving yards.

Hobart will close out the regular season on Nov. 14, when the Statesmen visit the University of Rochester. The oldest rival on Hobart’s schedule, the Yellowjackets and Statesmen will square off for the 102nd time since 1892 with the series tied 47-47-7. Kickoff for the third annual Centennial Cup game is slated for noon.
