Hayes tabbed NSCAA All-East Region

Hobart College sophomore Tommy Hayes was named to the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III All-East Region Third Team.

A forward, Hayes finished the season with a team-high 14 points. He led the Statesmen with six assists, and netted four goals. Hayes recorded the game-winner in a 3-0 win at Ithaca. He also assisted on two game-winning goals; in a 2-1 win at Union and a 2-1 win vs. Hamilton. In a victory at Nazareth, Hayes registered a six-point performance with two goals and two helpers, tying the program record for points in a game. He completed the season ranked third in the Liberty League in assists and 10th in points. The All-Liberty League First Team pick was named the league’s Offensive Performer of the Week once.

Hayes helped Hobart capture the program’s first Liberty League Championship and earn its fourth straight (fifth overall) berth into the NCAA Tournament. The Statesmen advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive year, posting a 15-4-2 record.

Abbie DiPalma
William Smith Rowing
DiPalma served as the coxswain for the William Smith varsity eight that finished second in the petite final at the ECAC Championships on Sunday. In their morning heat, the Herons committed a false start, but then turned in the third fastest time of the heats (out of 20 crews in three heats). William Smith covered the course in 6:59.640, then logged a time of 6:57.688 in the petite final, second only to Division I New Hampshire.

Hobart Lacrosse
Facing the toughest defense in the nation, Curtin posted his third consecutive hat trick. He completed his collegiate career with a three-goal performance at Bryant on Thursday. The Bulldogs came into the contest allowing just 6.44 goals per game, but the Statesmen netted nine goals, the second highest total against Bryant this season. Curtin capped his career 11th in career goals and career points and 12th in career assists.
