The Hobart College soccer team was recently honored with the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Team Academic Award for the 2008-09 academic year. Hobart is one of 141 men’s teams to earn the award.
To be eligible to receive this award, a team must have a combined grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The 30 Statesmen on last fall’s roster recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.08.
“It’s a great accomplishment on the part of the Hobart soccer team to achieve so much on the field and do so well in the classroom,” said
Scott McKinney, professor of economics at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. “I’ve had many of these students in my classes in the past and have many of them in my class this fall: they’re always hard-working and intellectually lively. They’re excellent examples of the ideal of the student-athlete, someone whose passion to excel extends to all parts of their life.”
Additionally, six Hobart soccer players were recently named to the 2009 Liberty League All-Academic Team:
