William Smith College senior Torie Allen and junior Katie Harrington recently took home top lacrosse honors at the annual William Smith Athletics Awards Banquet. Allen was presented with the Patricia Price Genovese Lacrosse Award as the team’s most valuable player, while Harrington was the recipient of the Shirley Zornow ’48 Lacrosse Coach’s Award.

Allen led the Heron defense this spring, notching a team-high 56 ground balls, a team-high 51 draws, and a team-high 35 caused turnovers. A four-year starter and two-time All-Liberty League first team selection, Allen finished her career ranked first in William Smith’s records book in career draw controls (124), second in caused turnovers (84), and eighth in ground balls (166). She also earned 2008 ECAC Upstate All-Star accolades, and is a three-time Liberty League All-Academic honoree.

Also a defender, Harrington started five of the eight games she played in this spring. She picked up four ground balls, won three draw controls, and caused three turnovers. Highly regarded by her teammates and the coaching staff, Harrington is an exceptional leader and motivator. One of the hardest workers on the team, she is constantly striving to improve herself and those around her. Harrington has played in 30 career games so far, recording 15 ground balls, eight draws, and eight caused turnovers.

William Smith finished the year with an 11-4 overall record and ranked 13th in the nation in the final Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association poll.
