Drury adds golf coach to responsibilities
Lindsay Drury
William Smith College Director of Athletics Deb Steward recently announced that Basketball Head Coach Lindsay Drury will also serve as golf head coach for the 2009-10 season. Drury replaces George Dornberger, who resigned following two seasons at the helm.

“Coach Drury is an avid golfer, an outstanding coach, and a remarkable mentor,” Steward said. “She has tremendous passion for the game of golf and will help our young golf program grow.”

Drury has played in numerous charity golf tournaments and has traveled to Scotland, playing Carnoustie Golf Links, the old course and new course at The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, and Turnberry.

Over the past four seasons with the basketball program, Drury has established herself as one of the top young coaches in collegiate basketball. She has led the Herons to a 77-33 (.700) record, that includes two 20-win seasons, two Liberty League regular season championships, two trips to the NCAA Tournament, a berth in the Sweet 16 in 2008, and the 2007 ECAC Upstate Tournament Championship.

Drury’s staff has been voted the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year twice, while she garnered Regional Coach of the Year accolades from the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and D3hoops.com following the 2007-08 season.

Earlier this month, Drury attended the NCAA Women Coaches Academy (WCA) in Denver, Colo. The WCA provides skills training for coaches at all levels to assist them in being more efficient, productive, resourceful, and successful. The academy is designed for women coaches who are ready and willing to increase their individual effectiveness by learning advanced skills and strategies that directly affect their personal and team success. The WCA is designed to give coaches the opportunity to understand their expanding role as a coach, along with perspectives and skills to help them make the most of their situation.

The 2009-10 season will mark the sixth varsity season for William Smith golf. The Herons return four of the top six golfers from last season’s squad, including rising junior Lauren Carlson. She finished second on the team in scoring average and earned the William Smith Golf Coach’s Award.
