Kaitlyn Van Nostrand and sophomore
Caroline Patten were recently recognized at the annual William Smith Athletics Awards Banquet.
Van Nostrand was awarded the Ady Symonds ’96 Most Valuable Sailing Award for the second straight year. This season, she helped the sailing team qualify for both the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Women’s National Championships and the ICSA Coed Dinghy National Championships. Van Nostrand teamed up with
Kelly Crane to win the A division of the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Women’s Spring Championship and earn the berth into the women’s nationals. The following week, she joined
Austin Kana for a fourth-place finish in the A division of the ICSA National Semifinals to help HWS grab a spot in the national championships.
Patten was honored with the Christine Jurczak ’00 Sailing Coach’s Award for the second year in a row as well. She also played an integral role in the Herons’ qualifying for the ISCA Women’s Nationals. In the MAISA Women’s Spring Championship, Patten teamed up with
Emily Pelo to earn a fifth place finish in the B division, helping William Smith place second overall. In the fall, Patten won the season-opening regatta on Seneca Lake, the HWS Radial BYO, and joined Patten for a fourth place finish out of 18 teams in the Finger Lakes Women’s Intersectional.
One of the top sailing programs in the nation, Hobart and William Smith were ranked 11th in the nation in the latest Sailing World coed college sailing poll and eighth in the women's college sailing poll.
