GENEVA, N.Y.—The St. Lawrence field hockey team scored three goals in each half to top Morrisville State 6-1 on McCooey Field in the William Smith Classic. The Saints got four-point performances from Caitlin Estes (2 gls) and Jennifer Stetson (1 gl, 2 asst).
Estes opened the afternoon's scoring, finishing a feed from Stetson, in the 19th minute. Two minutes later, Brooke Maloney assisted on Kelsey Berry's first goal of the season to double the Saints' lead.
In the 31st minute, the Mustangs (3-4) halved their deficit on Lauren Bordonaro's team-leading sixth goal of the season. Alexandra Pells was credited with the assist.
St. Lawrence (4-1) took a 3-1 lead into halftime thanks to Stetson's goal 37 seconds before the break.
The Saints had a 20-2 advantage in shots and a 15-1 edge in penalty corners in the opening stanza. They finished the game with 38-3 lead in shots and a 23-1 lead in corners.
Joss-Elyse Smith, Estes, and Rachel Burke scored in the second half for St. Lawrence to complete a dominating weekend. SLU beat Wheaton (Mass.) yesterday 5-1.
In goal, Emilie Lannamann made one stop to earn the win, while Morrisville State's Kelsey Pellegrino finished the day with 20 saves.
