TROY, N.Y.—Senior Charlotte Scott was the top performer for the William Smith swimming and diving team in the Rensselaer Invitational on Saturday. She produced a pair of top five finishes and shared a third top five finish in the meet's final relay.

Scott placed fourth in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:31.17, three seconds behind the winner, but more than 10 seconds ahead of the fifth place swimmer. Earlier in the meet, she took fifth in the 200 free, logging a time of 2:05.25. Scott capped the day's racing on the fifth place 400 free relay team with Caitlin O'Brien, Jordan Hawn, and Ellen Ellison. They touched in at 4:03.77.

The Herons' 400 free B relay team of Rachel Johnson, Jessica Cook, Mamme Daley, and Lindsay Simonson was 1.63 seconds behind the A relay, taking sixth place.

William Smith also got top-6 finishes from O'Brien (5th in 1,000 free in 11:42.16), Lauren Morosky (5th in 50 free in 26.4), and Casey Sherwin (6th in 100 free in 58.19).

RPI took the team title with a score of 624.5, besting Cortland (553.5), Oneonta (383), William Smith (366), and Skidmore (268).

The Herons will be back in the water on Jan. 27 when they host RIT. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Bristol Pool.

William Smith Field Hockey
Atwan opened the season with a total of 11 points in two William Smith victories. She netted a pair of goals and assisted on a third, all in the first half, as the Herons defeated Oswego 7-0 on Wednesday. Three days later, Atwan produced her first career hat trick, all in the second half, to rally William Smith from a two-goal halftime deficit to a 4-2 victory. Her 11 points is nearly double her point total from her first two seasons combined and nearly halfway to her point total last year (25).

Hayes scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lead the Statesmen to a 2-1 win at two-time defending national champion and top-ranked Messiah College on Friday. He also scored the game-winner in a 6-1 triumph at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Hayes is tied for the team lead in goals.
