Thirteen members of the Hobart College football team recently earned a spot on the 2009 Liberty League All-Academic Team.

“I’m delighted to hear of the academic achievements of the many fine Hobart men who wear the Statesman uniform,” said David Mapstone, Hobart Dean and football Faculty Athletic Fellow. “These men are wonderful examples of our institutional commitment to develop holistic student-athletes—men committed to excellence in the classroom, on the playing field, and in our community.”

To earn a spot on the team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher and be at least a sophomore academically. The following Statesmen were named to the All-Academic squad:

• Junior cornerback Nick Bianchi, writing and rhetoric major*
• Sophomore offensive lineman Jarrid Blades, political science major
• Sophomore free safety Will Connery, undeclared
• Sophomore cornerback Dan Dechert, undeclared
• Senior tight end David Degan, biochemistry major*
• Senior linebacker Scott Ghiraldi, economics major*$
• Sophomore offensive lineman Tom Goslowski, undeclared
• Junior offensive lineman Sean Kluber, media and society major
• Sophomore linebacker Dan Kolinski, undeclared
• Sophomore offensive lineman Hunter LaCroix, undeclared
• Senior offensive lineman Brian Monaco, biology major*$
• Senior wide receiver Paul Overdorf, biology major*$
• Junior wide receiver Andy Schettine, sociology and Spanish and Hispanic studies double major*

The Hobart football team posted a 6-3 overall record and finished third in the Liberty League this fall. The Statesmen capped the season with a four-game winning streak, en route to the program’s 13th straight winning season.

Abbie DiPalma
William Smith Rowing
DiPalma served as the coxswain for the William Smith varsity eight that finished second in the petite final at the ECAC Championships on Sunday. In their morning heat, the Herons committed a false start, but then turned in the third fastest time of the heats (out of 20 crews in three heats). William Smith covered the course in 6:59.640, then logged a time of 6:57.688 in the petite final, second only to Division I New Hampshire.

Hobart Lacrosse
Facing the toughest defense in the nation, Curtin posted his third consecutive hat trick. He completed his collegiate career with a three-goal performance at Bryant on Thursday. The Bulldogs came into the contest allowing just 6.44 goals per game, but the Statesmen netted nine goals, the second highest total against Bryant this season. Curtin capped his career 11th in career goals and career points and 12th in career assists.
