Stefan Thompson was named the Liberty League Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week by the conference office today. It's the sixth time this season he has earned the award, in addition to a Guard of the Week honor.
Thompson averaged a team-high 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, a team-high 2.5 steals, and a team-high 2.0 assists in a 1-1 weekend for the Statesmen. At St. Lawrence, he produced a team-high 14 points, grabbed five boards, and made two steals in a 68-57 loss. The following afternoon at Clarkson, Thompson produced a game-high 21 points, four boards, three assists, and three steals to lead the Hobart to a 67-58 win. For the week, he shot 47.1 percent from the floor and was 18-of-22 from the free throw line.
A starter in all 18 games this season, Thompson is averaging 15.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.39 assists, and 1.2 steals. He's shooting 57.3 percent from the floor, including 44 percent from behind the three-point arc, and 84.1 percent from the free throw line. Thompson ranks third in the Liberty League in scoring, field goal percentage, and free throw percentage, and 13th in assists.
Hobart (10-8, 3-4) is back in action on Feb. 5, when the Statesmen host Union (9-8, 5-2). Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. This will be the second meeting between the two conference rivals. On Jan. 16 in Schenectady, Hobart posted a 64-50 victory.
