SYRACUSE, N.Y.—Day One of the Upper New York State College Swimming Association Championships at Nottingham High School is in the book and a 12-year-old record is off the books. The William Smith 400-yard medley relay team broke the school record with a heat winning performance.
Sophomore
Lauren Morosky factored into all three of the Herons' finals appearances on the day. She swam with first-years
Casey Sherwin,
Katie Stebbins, and
Heidi Gordon in the 400 medley relay. They qualified for the B Final with a 13th place finish in the morning prelims, turning in a time of 4 minutes, 13.10 seconds. The quartet improved its time to 4:09.46 in the evening's finals, winning the B Final and placing ninth overall. The time eclipsed the mark set at the 1998 state championships by Jaime VanFossan '98, Susan Young '98, Erin Rutherford '01, and Kelly Stuto '02.
Morosky also teamed with first-year
Amanda Woods, first-year
Casey Sherwin, and senior
Charlotte Scott in the 200 freestyle relay. They reached the B Final with a 13th place finish in the prelims (1:43.01) and finished second in their evening heat (10th overall) in 1:42.75.
Morosky also qualified for the evening session in the 50 free. She touched the wall in 25.78 seconds in the morning (23rd overall) and placed eighth in the C Final in 25.78.
The UNYSCSA Championships continue tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m.
