GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College hockey team held on for a 4-1 victory over ECAC West foe Utica tonight at The Cooler. Ten different Statesmen registered a point as Hobart improved to 13-9-2 overall and 9-4-1 in the conference. The Pioneers slip to 8-13-3 on the season and 4-9-1 in the ECAC West.

First-year Chris Cannizzaro netted his 11th goal of the year six minutes, 32 seconds into the contest. Classmate Bobby Hannah and senior Jordan Zitoun set up Cannizzaro, who caught Utica goalie Kyle Guestin moving and capitalized on a nearly open net.

Aaron Jeffery scored the equalizer for the Pioneers in the 13th minute. Jeffery and Tim Coffman broke away for a two-on-one opportunity and made it count. Matt Fitzgibbons also recorded an assist on the play.

In the second period, sophomore Gregory Ciciola tallied the eventual game-winner on a power play. Juniors Matthew Wallace and Patrick Moriarty passed between themselves behind the goal before finding Ciciola in front of the net for the shot.

The third period was scoreless until the final minute, when seniors Gregory Alberti and Bobby Cahill both scored on the Pioneers’ empty net, putting Hobart ahead 4-1. Seniors Blake Bonham and Bryant Harris assisted on Cahill’s goal.

Hobart first-year goalie Nick Broadwater earned his 10th win of the year, collecting 28 saves, while Guestin finished with 37.

The Statesmen outshot Utica 41-29, and converted 1-of-5 power-play opportunities. The Pioneers were 0-for-4.

Hobart and Utica will square off again tomorrow, Feb. 20, in the final regular season game for both teams. The puck will drop at 7 p.m. Fans unable to make it to The Cooler can listen to the game live on WHWS-FM (105.7), or follow along online with Live Stats.
