Heron swimmers win Skidmore Sprint Invitational

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The William Smith swimming and diving team won the Skidmore Sprint Invitational today. The Herons posted a score of 232.5, besting the host Thoroughbreds (221.5) and Vassar (191).

Casey Sherwin posted the lone individual victory for the Herons, winning the 50-yard butterfly in 29.24 seconds, 0.02 seconds ahead of the runner-up. She also turned in a second-place finish in the 50 backstroke in a time of 30.75, 0.14 seconds off the winning pace, and third-place effort in the 100 butterfly (1:05.99).

Sherwin factored into William Smith's other victory, swimming a leg for the winning 200 freestyle relay team with Amanda Woods, Charlotte Scott, and Lauren Morosky. They touched the wall in 1:47.06.

The Herons got additional second-place finishes from Morosky in the 100 free (58.31), Scott in the 200 free (2:04.97), and Katie Stebbins in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.94). Third-place showings came from Jessica Cook in the 100 backstroke (1:06.98) and the 50 backstroke (31.53), Stebbins in the 50 breaststroke (35.39) and the 100 individual medley (1:09.20), Morosky in the 50 free (26.70), and Scott in the 400 IM (5:07.29).

William Smith will be back in action Feb. 17-20, when the Herons compete in the UNYSCSA Championships in Syracuse, N.Y.
