Three Hobart basketball players received weekly awards from the Liberty League office today. Matt Pebole is the Co-Forward of the Week, Tim Llewellyn is the Guard of the Week, and Stefan Thompson is the Co-Rookie of the Week.

Pebole averaged a team-high 16.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in a 2-0 week. In a 97-47 win over Union on Friday, he produced 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists in just 17 minutes. The next day in an 85-79 win over Skidmore, Pebole netted a game-high 19 points, grabbed six boards, made two assists and two steals, and blocked a shot. For the week, he shot 44.8 percent from the floor and 87.5 percent from the free throw line.

Pebole, who has been named the Forward of the Week six times this season, leads the Liberty League in scoring (18.5 ppg) and ranks in the top 15 in field goal percentage (.558, 4th), rebounding (6.8 rpg, 5th), free throw percentage (.789, 5th), and steals (1.3 spg, 13th).

Llewellyn averaged 13.0 points, 4.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals over the weekend. Against the Dutchmen, he registered 12 points, three assists, and two steals in just 15 minutes. Against the Thoroughbreds, Llewellyn notched 14 points, six assists, and four rebounds. For the week, he shot 66.7 percent from the floor, including 6-of-10 from behind the arc.

A three-time Guard of the Week, Llewellyn leads the Liberty League in steals (2.8 spg) and ranks in the top 20 in assists (2.8, 8th), three-point percentage (.350, 12th), three-pointers made (1.4/g, 12th), and scoring (9.4 ppg, 16th).

Thompson averaged 13.5 points and 3.5 assists last week. Against Union, he produced nine points and a game-high five assists in just 16 minutes. Against Skidmore, Thompson netted 18 points and handed out two assists. For the week, he shot 44.4 percent from the floor and 90.9 percent from the free throw line.

Thompson, a seven-time Rookie of the Week recipient in addition to a Guard of the Week award, is among the best in the conference in field goal percentage (.559, 2nd), scoring (15.4 ppg, 3rd), free throw shooting (.847, 3rd), and assists (2.5 apg, 11th).

Hobart is 12-8 overall, 5-4 in the Liberty League. The Statesmen are tied for the fourth and final spot in the conference tournament with five regular season games remaining. Hobart is just a half game behind Skidmore and Union, which are tied for second place, and a game and a half back of first place St. Lawrence.

The Statesmen will continue their five-game homestand on Feb. 9 when Hamilton (8-11, 4-5) visits Bristol Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. WHWS-FM (105.7) will broadcast the game live. Fans can also follow the action online with streaming video and Live Stats.

Kevin Curtin
Hobart Lacrosse
Facing the toughest defense in the nation, Curtin posted his third consecutive hat trick. He completed his collegiate career with a three-goal performance at Bryant on Thursday. The Bulldogs came into the contest allowing just 6.44 goals per game, but the Statesmen netted nine goals, the second highest total against Bryant this season. Curtin capped his career 11th in career goals and career points and 12th in career assists.

William Smith Rowing
DiPalma served as the coxswain for the William Smith varsity eight that finished second in the petite final at the ECAC Championships on Sunday. In their morning heat, the Herons committed a false start, but then turned in the third fastest time of the heats (out of 20 crews in three heats). William Smith covered the course in 6:59.640, then logged a time of 6:57.688 in the petite final, second only to Division I New Hampshire.
