Curtin nominated for 2010 Lowe’s Senior CLASS award

Hobart College senior Kevin Curtin has been nominated for the 2010 Lowe's Senior CLASS award. An attackman on the Statesmen lacrosse team, Curtin was named the team's only captain for the 2010 season.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the award focuses on accomplishments both on and off the field. Nominees for the award must be a senior academically, an NCAA Division I student-athlete, and must have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character and competition. The 20 nominees (click here for complete list) will be cut down to 10 halfway through the season, and the winner will be announced at the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore May 29-31.

Curtin is an exceptional student. An economics major, he is a member of the Druid and Chimera honor societies. Curtin is a five-time Dean's List member, four-time Hobart Dean's scholar, three-time ECAC All-Academic team member and Statesmen scholar, a Hale scholar, a Trustee scholar, and a two-time Alumni Association award winner.

Curtin also engages in a variety of community service activities. In 2006, he helped rebuild houses in New Orleans over spring break, and in the fall of 2008 Curtin ran a lacrosse clinic at a local YMCA. More recently, he participated in HWS' Penguin Plunge, a fundraiser for a local breast cancer support group. Curtin also volunteers annually with the Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive, and the Geneva Rotary Club's Santa Train.

On the field, Curtin started all 14 games as an attackman last season for the Statesmen. He finished second on the team in goals (21), assists (13), and points (34). Curtin also ranked sixth on team in ground balls (28) and earned at least one point in every game.

Curtin will lead Hobart in its season opener on Feb. 27, as they host sixth-ranked Cornell on McCooey Field at 1 p.m. This will be the 130th meeting between the Big Red and the Statesmen.
