Hobart forward
Matt Pebole continues to collect postseason accolades. The sophomore was named to the 2010 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-East Region second team today.
Pebole earned a spot on the
D3hoops.com All-East Region first team earlier this week after being named first team All-Liberty League last month. He is the ninth Statesman to earn all-region recognition from the NABC, joining
Mike Masino ’88 (in 1988), Jeff Holtyn ’89 (1989), Andrew D’Eloia ’95 (1995), Eric Nelson ’98 (1998), Rob Pisanelli ’00 (2000), Joe Corbett ’03 (2001, ’02, ’03), Colby Feane ’06 (2005), and John Grazioli ’08 (2008).
The two-year starter poured in 472 points this season, the most by a Statesman since all-time leading scorer Joe Corbett ’03 netted 528 in 2000-01. Pebole paced the Liberty League by producing 18.9 ppg. He hit double figures in the scoring column in all 25 games he played in this season, registering seven games with 20 points or more, including three 30-point efforts. He torched Buffalo State for a career-high 36 points in a double overtime win for the Statesmen.
For the season, Pebole shot 53.7 percent from the floor, knocked down 17-of-47 from three-point range (.362), and converted 80.5 percent of his chances from the free throw line. He averaged 6.5 rpg, 1.2 apg, and 1.0 spg.
Pebole was named the Liberty League Forward of the Week nine out of a possible 15 times this season.
Hobart produced a 17-11 record, the third highest win total in the program’s history. The Statesmen tied for second place in the Liberty League and advanced to the Liberty League Tournament championship game for the first time since 2000-01.
The conference runner-up, Hobart earned an ECAC Upstate Tournament bid, the program’s sixth postseason invitation.
