Hobart’s
Tyler Cassell and
Max Silberlicht were among the 64 men’s lacrosse players named to the 2010 Tewaaraton Watch List today by the Greater Washington Sports Alliance.
A senior midfielder, Cassell was named to the 2009 All-ECAC second team. He led the team with 22 goals, including six extra-man tallies. Cassell scored a career-high four goals against Providence last season, while burning Binghamton and Penn State for hat tricks.
A senior goalie, Silberlicht returns to the Watch List after earning his way onto the 2009 list at midseason. In each of the past two seasons, he has broken Hobart’s Division I record for goals against average, lowering the mark to 7.91 last year. Silberlicht boasted a .613 save percentage in 2009, ranking third in the ECAC Lacrosse League and fifth in the nation. He was named a 2010 preseason honorable mention All-American by Face-Off Yearbook.
This is the first time two Statesmen have been named to the Watch List. Two-time All-American defenseman Greg McCarthy ’05 and All-American attackman
Daryl Veltman ’08 are the only other Statesmen to earn a spot on the Watch List.
Established in August of 2000, the Tewaaraton Trophy is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award honoring the top female and male varsity collegiate lacrosse player in the United States. Simply put, it is the lacrosse equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.
The award will be presented on June 3, 2010, at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
Hobart (0-1) is back in action on Sat., March 6, when the Statesmen visit Colgate (1-2). Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
