SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The William Smith College tennis team fell to Skidmore 8-1 this afternoon, in the first match of the spring season. The Herons slip to 2-1 overall, while the Thoroughbreds improve to 4-1.

Sophomore Joanie Hilton picked up a singles victory for William Smith at No. 3. She defeated Laura Attley 6-3 in the first set and held a 3-0 lead in the second, before Attley retired. The win marks Hilton’s fourth of the season, including fall tournament play, and she improves her dual match record to 1-2.

The Herons will be back in action on March 15, when they meet Dickinson in Orlando, Fla.
