Hobart sophomore forward Matt Pebole and first-year guard Stefan Thompson were honored by the Liberty League office this afternoon. Pebole was tabbed the Men’s Basketball Co-Forward of the Week for the ninth time this season, while Thompson collected his 10th Rookie of the Week Award.

Pebole led Hobart with 16 points in an 86-59 ECAC Upstate Tournament Semifinal loss at Brockport. He was 6-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the free throw line. Pebole also grabbed a game-high five rebounds.

A unanimous first team All-Liberty League pick this season, Pebole led the conference in scoring (18.9 ppg), ranked third in field goal percentage (.537), sixth in free throw shooting (.805), and seventh in rebounding (6.5 rpg). With 745 career points, he is on pace to become the 22nd Statesman to reach the 1,000-point plateau next season.

Thompson was Hobart’s No. 2 scorer against the Golden Eagles. He netted 11 points, including a 9-of-11 performance from the free throw line. Thompson also notched three assists and a team-high three steals. He completed his rookie campaign with 420 points, 119 more than any first-year in Hobart’s 100 season history.

The unanimous choice for Liberty League Rookie of the Year, Thompson was fourth in the conference in scoring (15.0 ppg), field goal percentage (.532), and free throw percentage (.842), fifth in assists (3.29 apg), and nine in steals (1.36 spg).

Hobart finished the season with a 17-11 overall record, the third most wins in a season by the Statesmen. Hobart finished second in the Liberty League standings with a 9-5 mark and advanced to the conference tournament championship game for just the second time in program history.

The Statesmen broke team season records for three-pointers made (201, 10 more than 2008-09) and steals (271, 10 more than 1989-90).
