The William Smith College lacrosse team is ranked 18th in Division III, according to this week’s Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association’s (IWLCA) poll. The Herons opened the 2010 season on Saturday, when they hosted 20th-ranked Nazareth.

William Smith fell to the Golden Flyers in the opener, 18-10. Sophomore Rosie Scheibel paced William Smith with three goals, while senior Molly Fitzgerald and sophomore Kathryn Gillan tallied two goals and an assist apiece. Senior Brittany Callaghan added a goal and a helper.

The Herons will look to bounce back next week, when they square off against Brockport (March 16) and Messiah (March 18) in West Palm Beach, Fla. Last spring, William Smith defeated Messiah 15-11 behind a four-goal, one-assist effort from senior Sarah Goodkind, and topped the Golden Eagles 19-11 thanks to seven goals and a helper from Fitzgerald.

Curtin capped his career 11th in career goals and career points and 12th in career assists.
