Ragan nets weekly league award

William Smith College first-year Kathleen Ragan was named the Liberty League Women’s Lacrosse Co-Rookie of the Week today by the conference office. Last week, the Herons posted a 14-13 upset over eighth-ranked Cortland, before falling to third-ranked Hamilton 18-7.

A midfielder, Ragan netted four goals for William Smith. She scored twice vs. the Red Dragons on Wednesday, and added two more goals against the Continentals on Saturday. Ragan also recorded five ground balls, three draws, and a caused turnover on the week.

Ragan has recorded six goals, an assist, 13 ground balls, six draws, and two caused turnovers in 10 games this season.

The Herons (6-5) will travel to Ithaca (8-4) for a non-league contest tomorrow, April 20, at 4:30 p.m. Fans unable to attend can listen live on WHWS-FM (105.7) or follow along online with Live Stats.

Hobart Basketball
Gibbons averaged a team-high 18.5 ppg and 5.5 rpg in a 1-1 week for the Statesmen. He scored 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting, grabbed five rebounds, and recorded two steals at RPI. The following afternoon, Gibbons had 15 points and seven rebounds at Skidmore. For the week, he shot 64 percent from the floor and made all five of his free throw attempts.

Mitchell went 4-0 at the Smith Round Robin over the weekend. Playing in the No. 7 and No. 8 spots in the order, she posted 3-0 sweeps of her opposition against Smith (a 6-3 Heron win), Northeastern (W 8-1), and Wellesley (L, 3-6). Vassar's Katherine Cornish was the only player to take a game from Mitchell this weekend. After dropping the opening game 11-9, Mitchell bounced back with 11-7, 11-3, 11-4 wins to take the match 3-1. She has the team's best individual record this winter (7-5) and has won five straight matches.
