ITHACA, N.Y.—The William Smith College lacrosse team lost to Ithaca 16-7 this afternoon at Carp Wood Field. The Herons slip to 6-6 overall, while the Bombers improve to 9-4.

Sophomore Rosie Scheibel led William Smith with two goals and an assist, while classmate Lucy Johnson added to goals. Sophomore Callie Frelinghuysen picked up a game-high four ground balls and caused a game-high three turnovers for the Herons.

Kylie McClure paced Ithaca with a game-high five points on four goals and an assist. Catherine Hurley netted four goals, Tracy Rivas scored three, and Nicole Borisenok tallied two goals and two helpers for the Bombers as well.

Ithaca outshot William Smith 30-19 and held a 14-10 ground ball advantage, while the Herons owned a slim 14-13 edge in draws.

Rivas opened the scoring with an unassisted tally eight minutes, 10 seconds into the contest. Just over four minutes later, senior Brittany Callaghan found the back of the net, off an assist from Scheibel, to put the Herons on the board.

McClure scored her first of the day to put the hosts back on top, 2-1, but senior Molly Fitzgerald connected on a free-position shot to even the game again with 14:28 remaining in the half. Fitzgerald’s goal marked her 30th goal, 10th free-position, of the season.

Ithaca went on to end the stanza with five unanswered goals, taking a 6-2 lead into halftime.

In the second half, junior Cassie Findlay scored to get the Herons within four, 7-3, with 25:15 to play. Later, Scheibel and Johnson netted back-to-back goals to cut William Smith’s deficit to four again, 9-5, with just over 14 minutes on the clock. Borisenok answered for the Bombers both times to keep the Herons at bay. Ithaca continued to build its lead, outscoring William Smith 7-2 in the final 11:32 of the contest.

In goal, William Smith first-year Jesse Wilson recorded seven saves, while Courtney Dowell stopped eight shots for the Bombers.

The Herons will travel to Rochester on April 23 for a Liberty League contest at 4 p.m.

Hobart Basketball
Gibbons averaged a team-high 18.5 ppg and 5.5 rpg in a 1-1 week for the Statesmen. He scored 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting, grabbed five rebounds, and recorded two steals at RPI. The following afternoon, Gibbons had 15 points and seven rebounds at Skidmore. For the week, he shot 64 percent from the floor and made all five of his free throw attempts.

Mitchell went 4-0 at the Smith Round Robin over the weekend. Playing in the No. 7 and No. 8 spots in the order, she posted 3-0 sweeps of her opposition against Smith (a 6-3 Heron win), Northeastern (W 8-1), and Wellesley (L, 3-6). Vassar's Katherine Cornish was the only player to take a game from Mitchell this weekend. After dropping the opening game 11-9, Mitchell bounced back with 11-7, 11-3, 11-4 wins to take the match 3-1. She has the team's best individual record this winter (7-5) and has won five straight matches.
