For the seventh time this season and the third week in a row, the Hobart varsity eight has been named the Liberty League Men’s Rowing Boat of the Week. The Statesmen won their fifth consecutive Liberty League Championship over the weekend.

Hobart, unbeaten in the five previous varsity eight races at the Liberty League Championships, maintained its strangle hold on the conference crown with an open water victory on Fish Creek. The Statesmen seized the lead early in the race and pulled away from the field, crossing the finish line in 6 minutes, 15 seconds, more than 19 seconds ahead of second place St. Lawrence.

Hobart’s varsity eight was powered by junior coxswain Reynaldo Kelly, senior stroke Andrew Fosbrook, senior Francis Craig, junior Jack Trimble, junior Andrew Cobb, senior Matt Scanlon, junior David Roberts, sophomore Harold Zurakowski, and senior Carmen Cimini.

Hobart will be back on the water on May 1-2, when the Statesmen compete in the New York State Rowing Championships in Whitney Point. Hobart’s varsity eight won a bronze medal at last year’s state championships.
