Five members of the William Smith basketball team earned a spot on the 2009-10 Liberty League All-Academic Team.

To be eligible for the all-academic team, student-athletes must have a full year of attendance at their institution, and carry at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average.

The following Herons were named to the team:


William Smith was 8-16 overall this season, including a 4-10 mark in the Liberty League. As a team, the Herons won the 2010 Dean’s Award, presented to the William Smith team with the highest cumulative grade point average. The basketball squad produced an exceptional cumulative GPA of 3.564.

Tyler Mitchell
William Smith Squash
Mitchell went 4-0 at the Smith Round Robin over the weekend. Playing in the No. 7 and No. 8 spots in the order, she posted 3-0 sweeps of her opposition against Smith (a 6-3 Heron win), Northeastern (W 8-1), and Wellesley (L, 3-6). Vassar's Katherine Cornish was the only player to take a game from Mitchell this weekend. After dropping the opening game 11-9, Mitchell bounced back with 11-7, 11-3, 11-4 wins to take the match 3-1. She has the team's best individual record this winter (7-5) and has won five straight matches.

Hobart Basketball
Gibbons averaged a team-high 18.5 ppg and 5.5 rpg in a 1-1 week for the Statesmen. He scored 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting, grabbed five rebounds, and recorded two steals at RPI. The following afternoon, Gibbons had 15 points and seven rebounds at Skidmore. For the week, he shot 64 percent from the floor and made all five of his free throw attempts.
