Trimble honored by ECAC

Hobart junior oarsman Jack Trimble represented the Statesmen on the 2010 ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships All-Conference Team. He sat six seat in the varsity eight at the championships on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass., on May 9.

“By his tireless work ethic and determination, Jack has been one of the key leaders in the varsity eight all season,” Head Coach Mike Alton said. “The continuous individual improvement is one of those qualities in high level athletes like Jack, that help push everyone on the team.”

Trimble and his teammates qualified for the grand final with a second-place effort in the morning heats. Hobart logged a preliminary time of 6 minutes, 6.006 seconds, 2.107 seconds behind Division I Michigan.

In the grand final, the Statesmen improved their 2,000-meter time by nearly 7.5 seconds and finished fifth. The race was tightly contested with just 4.284 seconds separating first place Williams from sixth place WPI. Hobart was 0.264 seconds ahead of the Engineers and just 0.148 behind fourth place Marist.

As a team, the Statesmen finished third in the ECAC NIRC points standings, trailing only the Wolverines and Trinity (Conn.).

The ECAC/NIRC was the final event of the season for Hobart. The Statesmen won their fifth consecutive Liberty League Championship and claimed a gold and two silver medals at the New York State Championships this season.
