WHITNEY POINT, N.Y.—On the second day of the New York State Collegiate Rowing Championships, the William Smith rowing team captured a second medal. The Heron varsity eight earned a bronze medal, joining the
third varsity eight that won a silver medal yesterday.
"I'm really very proud of the job we did today, particularly the way our boats popped up their racing a level, meeting the level of competition here," Head Coach

Tallarie Thurgood, and
Jess Steketee qualified for today's grand final with a second place finish in their heat. William Smith returned to the medal stand after missing the podium last year. They covered the 2,000-meter course in 7 minutes, 1.52 seconds, finishing nearly five seconds ahead of fourth place Marist (7:06.36).
Ithaca won the gold in 6:50.38 with St. Lawrence taking the silver in 6:56.31.
The Heron second varsity eight also qualified for the grand final with a second place performance in Saturday's heats. William Smith just missed collecting a third medal, posting a time of 7:24.25.
The Bombers seized another gold in 7:10.54, followed by the Saints (7:13.49) and the Red Foxes (7:15.33).
The Herons will be back on the water on May 9, when they compete in the ECAC Championships in Worcester, Mass.
