3 Herons earn All-Liberty League honors

Three William Smith College lacrosse players were elected to the All-Liberty League Teams today by the league's coaches. Sophomore midfielder Lucy Johnson earned a spot on the first team, while senior attacker Molly Fitzgerald and sophomore midfielder Callie Frelinghuysen both earned second team accolades.

Last season's Liberty League Rookie of the Year, this is the second time Johnson has been selected to the All-Liberty League First Team. Johnson started all 15 games for the Herons, and recorded at least one point in every contest. She finished the year third on the team in goals (33) and points (39), and ranked fifth in assists (6). Johnson also won a team-high 34 draw controls, ranked second with 31 ground balls, and caused 11 turnovers. h six points (4g-2a) in the Herons' 14-13 upset over then eighth-ranked Cortland.

This is the fourth time Fitzgerald has earned All-Liberty League honors, and her third appearance on the second team. She started all 63 games over the past four years, and recorded at least one point in all but four of those contests. This spring, Fitzgerald led the team in scoring for the third straight season with 38 goals, 16 assists, and 54 points. She also collected 26 ground balls, 26 draws, and 11 caused turnovers. In her final collegiate contest, Fitzgerald matched her career-highs for goals (7) and points (9) to lead the Herons to a 24-14 win over Skidmore. A three-time IWLCA All-Region selection, she finished the season ranked first in the Liberty League in free-position goals per game (13 FPG, 0.87/g), and seventh in goals, assists, and points.

Fitzgerald wrapped her career with 151 goals (54 free-position goals), 57 assists, and 208 points, ranking her first in the William Smith records book in career free-position goals, seventh in both goals and assists, and eighth in points.

Callie Frelinghuysen
Frelinghuysen started all 15 games this year. She led the team and ranked second in the Liberty League in caused turnovers with 24 (1.60/g). She also ranked second on the team in ground balls (31), and recorded 12 draws, five goals, and three assists this spring. Frelinghuysen scored the game-winning goal in the Herons' 22-21 victory at St. John Fisher. She forced a season-high four turnovers in the upset of Cortland, and picked up a season-high four ground balls twice, vs. St. John Fisher and Ithaca.

William Smith posted an 8-7 overall record this spring. The Herons finished fifth in the Liberty League with a 4-4 mark.
