Seven Hobart lacrosse players were honored during the 2010 Block H Awards banquet. Senior goalie Max Silberlicht and sophomore attackman Chris Pedersen took home top honors as the defensive and offensive MVPs, respectively.

Senior attackman Kevin Curtin, junior defenseman Mike O’Brien, sophomore midfielder Bobby Dattilo, senior midfielder Kurtis Gibbs, and first-year defenseman Reid Rosello were also recognized.

A second-team All-ECAC selection, Silberlicht garnered the C.R.A.G. Outstanding Defensive Player Award. He was 14th in the nation this season with a .567 save percentage. Silberlicht posted a career-high 23 saves (the second highest total in Division I this season) in a 9-8 overtime loss to then No. 2 Syracuse. He holds the Hobart Division I career records for wins (18) and goals against average (9.24) and ranks second in saves (533) and save percentage (.576). Silberlicht was also a co-recipient of the Francis L. “Babe” Kraus ’24 Memorial Award as Hobart’s most outstanding senior athlete.

The C.R.A.G. Outstanding Defensive Player Award is named in honor of the starting defense—Dave Creighton ’72, Bob Raleigh ’73, Tim Anderson ’73, and Tom Gaggin ’72—of Hobart’s 1972 national championship team.

Also a second-team All-ECAC pick, Pedersen took home the William H. Dobbin ’40 Memorial Award after leading the team in assists (16) and ranking second in goals (17) and points (33). He produced a season-high four points three times this year, scoring four times against Quinnipiac, producing a hat trick with an assist at Colgate, and registering two goals and two assists at Denver.

Curtin was presented with the Van Arsdale Award for superior scholarship, leadership, and determination. He overcame an injury that forced him to miss two games and kept him out of the starting lineup in two more to lead the Statesmen with 22 goals and 36 points. The team’s lone captain scored a season-high five points against the Pioneers (2-3) and matched that total against Air Force (4-1). Curtin finished his career with 55 goals and 29 assists.

O’Brien earned the Kent W. Marbury ’62 Memorial Award for his dedication and hard work. He started all 14 games for Hobart this season, collecting 23 ground balls and causing 10 turnovers. O’Brien recorded a season-high three caused turnovers against then No. 20 Bucknell and picked up a season-high five GBs against Binghamton.

The recipient of the Crook Family Award, Dattilo was honored for his leadership, outstanding play, sportsmanship, and all-around value to the team. The Statesmen’s top faceoff specialist was second in the ECAC and eighth in the nation in faceoff winning percentage (.578). Dattilo also led the team and ranked fifth in the league in ground balls (67, 4.79/g). He matched his career-high with 17 faceoff victories at Colgate and won 14-of-15 restarts against the Bearcats.

Gibbs garnered the Lt. John Vandeverg ’50 Award as the team’s most improved player. He began his collegiate career as a goalie, but switched to defensive midfielder prior to his sophomore season. After playing sparingly in 2008 and 2009, Gibbs emerged as a steady contributor for the Statesmen on both ends of the field in 2010. He scored his first collegiate goal against Binghamton and logged his first multipoint game against Air Force (2-0). Gibbs collected a career-best 14 ground balls, including three GBs at Bucknell and against the Bearcats.

Rosello received the Rookie Award for Lacrosse. He played in 13 games this season, recording 11 ground balls, two caused turnovers, a goal and an assist. Rosello logged his first collegiate point on an assist against the Orange and scored his first goal against Ohio State. He also picked up a season-high three ground balls against the Buckeyes.

Hobart finished the season with a 3-11 record, 1-6 in the ECAC.
