Hobart and William Smith recently hired Ian Lockwood to serve as the strength and conditioning coach for the Statesmen and Herons. He replaces Willie Danzer who recently accepted a similar position at Youngstown State University.

Lockwood joins the HWS staff after serving as an intern on the Georgetown University strength and conditioning staff last year. He assisted with program design, coordination, implementation, and supervision of student-athletes from the Hoyas’ baseball, women’s basketball, football, women’s lacrosse, sailing, men’s and women’s soccer, track and field, and volleyball teams.

Part of Lockwood’s Georgetown internship included serving as the head strength and conditioning coach at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va. He gained additional experience working with all of the Maroon teams, including cross country, field hockey, men’s lacrosse, and wrestling.

Lockwood graduated from Ithaca College with a bachelor’s degree in clinical exercise science in 2007 and a master’s degree in human performance in 2009. During his undergraduate studies, he completed a semester-long internship with the University of Florida’s strength and conditioning staff. Lockwood worked with nearly all of the Gators’ teams, working closest with the 2007 14th-ranked softball team, members of the 2006 BCS National Champion football team and the nationally-ranked men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams.

While completing his master’s degree, Lockwood served as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach, working primarily with the Bombers' softball and men’s lacrosse teams, as well as men’s and women’s track and field.

Lockwood is strength and conditioning coach certified through the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association, a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and a certified health fitness specialist through the American College of Sports Medicine.
