The William Smith basketball team posted the fifth highest team grade point average in Division III during the 2009-10 season. The top level performance was recognized today by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
The Herons, who boasted a 3.566 GPA, were the only Liberty League team to make the WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. In fact, William Smith was the only team in the entire East region to make the list.
The Herons also captured the 2009-10 William Smith Dean’s Award, which is presented to the Heron team with the highest cumulative GPA. All 11 William Smith basketball student-athletes boasted a GPA of 3.1 or higher this year.
On the court, the Herons logged an 8-16 overall record. William Smith won the Liberty League’s Sportsmanship Award, which is voted on by the conference’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
The Herons will return 10 student-athletes from last season’s 12-woman roster, including four starters. When William Smith tips off the 2010-11 season at Ithaca on Nov. 16, the roster will feature three of the top 8 returning scorers in the Liberty League, forward
Kristen Kush ’12 (5th, 13.1 ppg), forward
Ashlinn Barber ’11 (6th, 12.6 ppg), and guard
Mollie Danahy ’11 (8th, 10.9 ppg).
