Hobart football captains announced

When the Hobart football team arrives on campus in less than a month, the Statesmen will be led by four senior captains: Kelvin Cruz, John Kelliher, Sean Kluber, and Kyle O'Laughlin. The captains were selected by a vote of their teammates.

“Over the past three seasons, these young men have distinguished themselves as leaders in the classroom, on the field and in the locker room,” Head Coach Mike Cragg said. “These four men are a great choice to lead our team.”

Cruz is a 6-foot, 305-pound center and Kluber is a 6-foot-1, 255-pound tackle. Last season, they helped the offense average 337.4 yards per game and rank second in the Liberty League in fewest sacks allowed with 16. Cruz was a 2009 All-Liberty League honorable mention selection this past season.

Kelliher, a free safety, was an All-Liberty League second team pick last season. He helped Hobart lead the conference in total defense, allowing only 303.1 yards per game. He finished in the top 10 on the team in tackles with 29, and tied for first in interceptions with two.

O'Laughlin, a linebacker, was an All-Liberty League second team selection this past season as well. He led Hobart and ranked fifth in the Liberty League with 77 tackles. O'Laughlin also had two interceptions.

Hobart will open the 2010 season on Sept. 11, when they take on the Dickinson Red Devils at the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation. Kickoff at Boswell Field is slated for noon.

General admission tickets are $5, and tickets for children under 12 are $2.
