CHERRY HILL, N.J.—The Hobart rowing team advanced two boats to the Knecht Cup grand finals, while a third Statesmen crew earned a spot in the petite finals. Hobart's varsity four and novice eight will compete in the grand finals on Sunday, while the varsity eight will compete in the petite final.
The varsity four of
Sarah Tanzer,
David Grossman,
Dillon Nachbar,
Michael Hess, and
Reid Johnson turned in a 2,000-meter time of 7:25.15, finishing second to Mercyhurst (7:19.20), earning a finals berth.
The novice eight had a longer road to the grand final, but enjoyed similar success. In their preliminary heat, the Statesmen finished second in 6:36.3, trailing only Drexel (6:25.40), to advance to the semifinals.
Jessica Dinan,
Dylan Corbett,
Chris Depaola,
Edward Amorello,
Andrew Hellmund,
Alex Kent,
Edward Witcher,
Robert Costello, and
Kevin Benz ensured a grand finish on Sunday with a semifinal time of 6:26.12, taking third behind Bucknell (6:13.81) and Trinity (6:13.91).
Hobart's varsity eight also had to navigate a pair of races today.
Reynaldo Kelly,
Max Swagler,
Andrew Cobb,
Jack Trimble,
David Roberts,
Harald Zurakowski,
Gerry Samson,
Peter Nettl, and
Coty Burgess merited a spot in the semis with a third place time of 6:21.76. Temple (6:18.47) and Rutgers (6:21.63) led the heat.
In the semifinals, the top three crews in each of the two races advance to the grand final. Hobart's time of 6:01.86 was the sixth fastest, but as fate would have it, it was the fourth fastest of that semifinal, relegating the Statesmen to tomorrow's petite final.
Hobart's second varsity eight will also compete on Sunday in the finals only Division II/III varsity eight event.
