Herons return to the pool at RPI Invite

The William Smith College swimming and diving team returned to competition for the first time in seven weeks and finished fourth out of six teams in the Rensselaer Invitational today.

The Herons also had dual meets set with Skidmore and Cobleskill. William Smith topped the Thoroughbreds 130-106 and blitzed the Tigers 194-29.

Sophomore Lia Duffy and first-year Christine Rhoads turned in the Herons' top performances.

Duffy finished second in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 56.08, just 0.09 seconds behind the winner. She also finished fifth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:22.12.

Rhoads took second in the 200 free, posting a time of 2:04.65 followed by junior Casey Sherwin in fifth place (2:06.01).

The 400 free relay team of Duffy, Mahoney, Rhoads, and junior Lauren Morosky finished third with a time of 3:54.47. The 400 medley relay team of Sherwin, junior Katie Stebbins, first-year Samantha Burnett, and sophomore Mimi Mahoney finished sixth in 4:24.43.

William Smith will be back in the pool on Wednesday, Jan. 25, when the Herons host RIT at 7 p.m.
