Gibbons named Liberty League Performer of the Week

Hobart College sophomore guard Joe Gibbons was named a Liberty League Men's Basketball Performer of the Week by the conference office today. He averaged a team-high 18.5 ppg and 5.5 rpg in a 1-1 week for the Statesmen.
 
A transfer from Rensselaer, Gibbons scored a season-high 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting, grabbed five rebounds, and recorded two steals in an 87-81 setback against his old teammates. The following afternoon, he had 15 points and seven rebounds in a 68-59 win at Skidmore. For the week, he shot 64 percent from the floor and made all five of his free throw attempts.
 
Gibbons has started all 17 games this season, producing 10.6 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.6 apg, and 1.1 spg. He's second on the team in assists and third in rebounding and steals. Gibbons is shooting 54.4 percent from the floor and 72.5 percent from the free throw line. He ranks ninth in the conference in field goal percentage.
 
Hobart is 14-3 overall. Halfway through their conference slate, the Statesmen are in first place in the Liberty League at 7-1, one game ahead of second place Clarkson. Hobart will be back on the court on Tuesday, Jan. 31, when the RIT Tigers visit Bristol Gym. The opening tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
