Hobart and William Smith Colleges Chief Photographer Kevin Colton won first place in the Sports Action category in the November 2011 monthly image competition (MIC) of the
University Photographers Association of America (UPAA). The shot captured William Smith diver
Kaileigh Fowler at the apex of one of her 3-meter dives set against the background of the large American flag that hangs in
Bristol Pool.
"Kevin's vision and skill tell a story far better than any words I've ever written," Director of Athletic Communications
Ken DeBolt said. "Part of my job is tracking statistical trends and rankings and I have no doubt that Kevin leads the nation in great photoghraphy."
A professional photographer with more than 30 years of experience, Colton joined Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 2006. Although he has earned a wide-range of honors and awards for his work, this is the first time he has finished first in the Sports Action category.
Colton's previous honors include: The Silver Award in the category of "Photographer of the Year" in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) 2010 Circle of Excellence Awards, first place in the News category of the UPAA MIC, and second place in the "Personal Vision" category of the MIC.
