Box Score ORLANDO, Fla.—The No. 11 Amherst women's lacrosse team scored seven straight goals going into halftime to take a 9-3 lead, and kept control from there to defeat William Smith 12-7 in a non-conference game played this afternoon. The Herons are now 1-2 overall.
Amherst improves to 4-1 this year. This was the final game William Smith will play on its spring break trip. The Herons will be back in action on March 27, when they travel to take on St. John Fisher at 5 p.m.

Kathryn Gillan led the William Smith offense with two goals apiece. Senior
Callie Frelinghuysen scored once. Junior
Kathleen Ragan and first-year
Katie Sipple each chipped in two assists. Sophomore
Maggie McNair played all 60 minutes in goal and finished with 11 saves.
Marta Randall, Allie Horwitz, and Krista Zsitvay each logged three goals for the Lord Jeffs. Horwitz added two assists. Lamia Harik played the entire game in goal for Amherst and stopped five shots.
The team traded goals early on in the first half. The Herons held a 3-2 lead at 10:33 in the first, but then the Lord Jeffs took control rattling off seven straight goals to take a 9-3 lead into the break. William Smith scored two goals to start the second, but Amherst answered with two of their own. Gillan and Frelinghuysen scored for William Smith to make it 11-7, but Caroline Holliday scored in the final minute for the final margin.
Amherst held a 25-17 advantage in shots. Each team picked up 13 ground balls.
