The ECAC Lacrosse League announced its weekly award winners today. Senior midfielder
Bobby Dattilo earned the Specialist of the Week award and sophomore goalie
Peter Zonino garnered the Defensive Player of the Week award.
It's hard to believe that Dattilo could improve on his season debut that saw him win 75 percent of his faceoffs and collect a game-high seven ground balls against Siena, but that's exactly what the preseason All-American did. In a 15-10 win over Binghamton on Saturday, Dattilo won 76.9 percent of his faceoffs (20-of-26) and scooped up a game-high 13 ground balls, one off his career-high. His efforts led the Statesmen to a 44-20 advantage in ground balls.
Through two games, Dattilo leads the nation in faceoff winning percentage (.759) and ground balls (10.0/g).
Zonino made his first collegiate start a memorable one, recording 16 saves to earn the win over the Bearcats. He was at his best in the third quarter, stopping seven of the eight shots that BU put on goal. He finished one stop shy of the Hobart Division I record for saves by a goalie making his first collegiate start. Fred Pawlikowski '98 (April 12, 1995 vs. Syracuse) and Max Silberlicht '10 (March 31, 2007 vs. Fairfield) both made 17 saves in their first start.
As a team, Hobart leads the nation in faceoff winning percentage (.719), is second in ground balls (43.0), seventh in scoring offense (13.0 gpg), 12th in saves per game (12.0), and 18th in points per game (18.0).
Individually, sophomore attackman
Alex Love shares the national lead in goals per game (4.5) and is 13th in points per game (4.5).
The Statesmen (1-1) will be back in action on Tuesday, March 6, when they visit Colgate (3-1). The opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Andy Kerr Stadium.
WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva) will broadcast the game. Fans can also follow the action online with
