Charlotte Federowicz was selected the Liberty League Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office this afternoon. Sophomore
Teru Greene earned a spot on the league's weekly honor roll.
In the first collegiate tournament of her career, Federowicz won the C Flight Singles title in the 2012 Mary Hosking Invitational this weekend. She cruised to an 8-2 victory over Nazareth's Ami Petosa in her first match and then topped Ithaca's Allison Vizgaitis 8-2 in the quarterfinal. She breezed to an 8-1 triumph over Geneseo's Jessica Ringler in the semifinal and defeated the University of Rochester's Janice Zhao 8-5 for the title. Federowicz also went 2-1 in doubles play over the weekend.
Greene won the B Flight Singles bracket and paired with teammate
Kiara Ocasio to win the A Flight Doubles title. Greene blanked Ithaca's Laurel Salladay in her first round match 8-0 and then defeated the University of Rochester's Molly Goodman 8-6 for a spot in the semifinals. Greene defeated her teammate,
Casey Nicoletti, 8-1 and then topped Ithaca's Carly Siegel 8-4 in the championship match.
Greene and Ocasio cruised to an 8-1 victory in their opening doubles match. The Heron pair defeated the No. 3 seed in the bracket, St. Lawrence's Morgan McNeal and Elkie Vandenbeemt, 8-4. Then Ocasio and Greene topped the No. 2 seed, Rochester's Frances Tseng and Cara Genbauffe, 8-2 in the semifinals. In the championship match, the Herons edged Nazareth's Alison Tepas and Alex Vizgaitis 9-7 for the title.
The Herons will be back in action on Sept. 22-24 when they host the ITA Northeast Regional Championships.
