Thompson nets 3rd All-America honor, named honorable mention by D3hoops

Hobart College senior Stefan Thompson garnered his third All-America award last night. The Statesman guard was tabbed an honorable mention All-American by D3hoops.com. Thompson was named a fifth team All-American by DIII News earlier this week and became the first National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-American in school history, earning second team honors back on March 21.

Thompson is the third Statesman to earn All-America honors from D3hoops. He joins Rob Pisanelli '00 (2000) and Joe Corbett '03 (2003), who also received honorable mention recognition.

Thompson reached a number of milestones in his senior season. He became just the seventh Statesman to record 1,500 career points in dramatic fashion, recording a career-high 30 points in an 85-82 overtime victory over Union. He amassed a total of 1,643 career points which puts him fourth on Hobart's all-time scoring list. Thompson also became the only Statesman to score more than 1,000 points and record more than 400 assists. He ranks second on the Hobart list with 492 career assists.  Thompson is also the first member of the Hobart basketball team to play in the NABC/Reese's Division III College All Star Game where he posted 12 points, four rebounds and three assists.

The three-time All-Liberty League selection and 2012-13 Liberty League Player of the Year finished this season atop the conference with 5.4 assists per game and a 2.3 assist-to-turnover. Thompson ranked fourth in scoring (15.6 ppg), free throw percentage (.841) and minutes played (34.6), fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (.422) and sixth in 3-points field goals made (1.9).

In his senior year, Thompson produced career-highs in points (438, 15.6 ppg), assists (150, 5.4 aspg), field goals made (147) and 3-pointers made (54). He reached double figures in scoring in 21 games. Thompson notched two double-doubles. He tallied 16 points and 11 assists against Dickinson and logged 19 points and 11 assists in an 81-80 double overtime victory over Division II Roberts Wesleyan. In the Liberty League tournament championship game, Thompson recorded 18 points, five assists and a steal, and earned a spot on the all-tournament team for his efforts.

Thompson holds the record for career games and starts, playing in 113 and starting 111 of those contests. He ranks second in career free throws made (500), tied for sixth in career 3-pointers made (121) and seventh in career steals (145). Thompson earned All-East honors from the NABC and D3hoops.com in his junior and senior seasons. As a first-year, Thompson was named the Rookie of the Year for the Liberty League as well as the D3hoops.com East Region and the ECAC Upstate Region.

Thompson and this year's senior class are just the second graduating class to produce four consecutive winning seasons. In his four years, the Statesmen posted three straight 20-win seasons, three consecutive Liberty League regular season championships, the first back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances in program history and the 2013 Liberty League tournament championship. The Class of 2013's 82-31 record is the program standard for wins in a career and highest winning percentage (.726).
