Twelve members of the William Smith College rowing team were recently named to the 2013 ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships Stewards' All-Academic Team. To be honored, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.35.

The 12 student-athletes represented William Smith's top three crews this season. At the ECAC NIRC, the Herons won a bronze medal in the varsity eight, placed sixth in the grand final in the 2V and finish third in the petite final of the 3V. The Herons won their third consecutive Liberty League Championship, taking gold medals in the 1V and 2V. (The league doesn't sponsor a 3V race.) At the New York State Championships, William Smith again took gold in the 1V, earned a bronze in the 2V and brought home silver in the 3V.
 
That success earned the Herons a fourth straight berth in the NCAA Championship. William Smith's 1V finished third in the grand final while the 2V won the petite final, placing the Herons fourth in the overall team standings for the second straight year.
 
In addition to being a banner year on the water, William Smith also enjoyed a great deal of success in the classroom. Fourteen Herons earned Liberty League All-Academic honors and nine were named National Scholar-Athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.
